Since I am fortunate enough to live in a place where I could get anywhere in town, without ever having to take a
freeway, I recently decided to purchase a little scooter. Meet Buddy: 2009 Genuine Scooter Company, 125 cc, automatic transmission, 60+mph, powder blue. My favorite thing about my new Buddy is that he is more environmentally friendly than my truck! Nissan Titan: 14 miles per gallon; Buddy: over 90 miles per gallon!!!In the short amount of time that I have owned Buddy we have had some great experiences together. I don’t think I ever imagined how peaceful it would be to ride a Scooter instead of driving a car. I have no distractions whatsoever! The iPhone is zipped away in my jacket pocket, there aren’t any annoying songs or commercials I have to deal with on the radio, and I constantly have the fresh Santa Barbara air blowing in my face! We have driven to work together, gone to the beach, went shopping downtown and even through the drive-thru once at In-N-Out Burger to get my boyfriend lunch. My favorite experience with Buddy though was the first time we went to the gas station together! I wasn’t very happy with the price of gas at the station but I was elated when I realized that my tank was full and I only had to pay $2.53!!! Buddy and I had driven over 100 miles together and it cost me just a couple bucks to refill for our next 100!

When Make It Work decided to launch its “Going Green” campaign this March I took a minute to sit back and think what I could do in my personal life to help the environment. My “Eco-lution” is to leave the truck at home and jump on Buddy next time I have to go somewhere. Unless it is raining, and it is too far away to walk of course, you can find me and my Buddy on the streets, doing our part to cut down on emissions and gas consumption! What are you doing to help the environment? Tell us about it, we’d love to hear everybody’s stories!
